THANK YOU to everyone who visited my post about the Layers of Charm pattern and for all the lovely comments.  You guys rock! I hope you get a chance to make this quilt some time; I think you will really enjoy it.  As promised, one person will win a $25 gift certificate to the Fat Quarter Shop and that winner is:

Congratulations Shellie! I’ve emailed you. 🙂

Now for this week’s finish. We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day at my house.  We did when my children were little, and made little cards to give to their friends but other than that it’s not a big celebration around here.

So I was excited when I finished this mini quilt in time to send it to my sister for Valentine’s day – it was a surprise gift and she would never expect to receive a valentine from me. 🙂

Checker Star Mini Quilt

I used the same pattern as my first mini quilt, but used prints and colors that she likes. Even though these aren’t “my colors” I was tempted to keep this baby for myself! Aaah!! I love it so much.

I did stitch in the ditch and matchstick quilting again and am so much happier with the way this one turned out than the first one. I quilted it more carefully since it was a gift and the attention I gave it really shows in the quilting.

Checker Star Mini Quilt Texture

The backing fabric has all these wonderful words – playful, beautiful, thankful, joyful – and it fits my sister’s personality perfectly. I have some of this fabric leftover and can’t wait to find something else to use it on.

Checker Star Mini Quilt Backing

This project finished in a day and it was fun to do.  Her mailman delivered it earlier this week and she loves it. I thought she might hang it in her sewing room, but she’s using it as a table topper so “people can see it.” Gotta love that she likes it enough to display it in public! 🙂

I enjoyed this quick project, but now it’s time to get back to real work (this was fun work.) Those OSU quilts are still waiting on me!
