Remember on Monday I told you I was waiting for a batting delivery so I could finish the Trail Mix quilt? Well, the batting came later that day. One day early. Yay! Except it’s still sitting in my sewing room and hasn’t been taken out of the packaging. Why, you might ask? Let me tell you. I can’t get enough of the new project I started while waiting for the batting. Oh, I’m in love with this quilt.
As usual, the quilt is changing and evolving as I go along. I had a plan – some easy squares, a border, a few more squares around the border and done. I decided to change the border a bit, extending the side pieces to run edge to edge and breaking up the top and bottom borders. Then, instead of using 8-1/2″ squares around the border, I chose to use rectangles to give the outside border a little more visual interest.
While pondering over a name for the quilt, Yvonne of Quilting Jetgirl commented that the fabric was “so floral”. I couldn’t get that out of my head, so I decided to go with it and really expand on the floral theme. I’m working on adding a few fun flowers to the front. I found a really cool appliqué method/tutorial by Andy over at A Bright Corner that I’ll be using. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
The name I’ve chosen is Floral Whimsy. I love how fun the floral prints are and adding the applique flowers just amps up the fun factor. I was able to work on the flowers today and can’t wait to show you the finished quilt.
I have a fun stripe to use for the backing and may add a flower or two to the back. We’ll see. I suspect this one may be finished long before Trail Mix!
