Earlier in the week I thought the purpose of this post would be to share my progress on Anthony’s quilt.

This is probably the only time I’m glad I am wrong. 🙂

Instead of a progress report I have a finish to share! Yes – Anthony’s quilt is finished and I’m so pleased. I will be traveling to see him next week and now I’ll be able to give his quilt to him. Yay!!

(Sorry for the indoor pics – it’s pouring the rain today and snow is coming later…)

HST Quilt - tranquility

The pattern is simple, lots of half square triangles, but the ombré effect of the solids is what makes this so beautiful. This quilt invokes a sense of calm in me and I hope it does the same for Anthony.

Pieced backing - HST - Tranquility Quilt

I used leftover squares in the back, and pieced four coordinating colors to complete the back. Making quilt backs is almost my least favorite part of the quilt making process. I love the look of pieced backs but I have to force myself to make them.

HST - Quilt Detail

Anthony loves quilts that are soft and squishy so I kept the quilting to a minimum. Just straight (ish) diagonal lines. It only took me three hours to quilt. That made me very happy!

After Washing

There were fabric strips leftover, so I decided to make a pillow too. So easy – just sew those strips together, quilt some straight lines, and make an envelope back.

This finish allows me to check another item off my goal list for the first quarter finish along. I’m pleased with my progress and I think it’s time to start making plans for the second quarter!
