…..a layer cake, that is. Just look at this pretty quilt pieced by my Mom. Isn’t it so happy?
Mom is a new quilter; she’s only been piecing for about a year and she is always on the search for easy patterns. She saw this layer cake and knew she wanted to do something with it. After some discussion she decided to just sash the layer cake pieces. I really like how it turned out.
Mom always lets me do whatever I want with the quilting on her quilts. For this one I just wanted to give it some texture so I quilted it with an allover design. The panto is called Patina and it’s a freebie from Urban Elementz. Free is always good, and this design is great because it stitches super fast and looks great. It’s a big design, so I shrunk it by 30%. I’ll be using this one often as it is a great texture design.
This was a difficult quilt to capture a picture of the texture. No matter where I tried, indoors or out, with sunlight or lamp, morning or evening, I just couldn’t get a good shot. The one above is the best of the front, and the back was near impossible. Maybe because the backing fabric itself looked so textured? I don’t know. I do know my photography skills are nil so that contributed a lot to the problem. 🙂 Here’s the back:
The day we tried to take pictures was soooo windy but my quilt holder hubby hung in there and helped me get a decent shot of the quilt. Here he is doing his best to conquer the wind – I think the wind won. LOL
I really like Mom’s quilt – it’s so bright and happy, perfect for brightening up the rainy day we’re having here today. I hope you have a great weekend, and find time to stitch a little rainbow of your own!
