We’ve had a few terribly hot days around here lately. Like, ‘can’t even breathe without sweating’ kind of days. Not that I’m complaining. I enjoy warm sunny days way more than rainy or cold ones. This warm weather is actually making working on my current project so fun. Look at this cool color palette:
Just playing with these fabrics is keeping me cool! These are Fairy Frost fabrics by Michael Miller. I love the weight of them and sewing with them has been a dream. I’m using these fabrics in a project that I won’t show you until July, but it’s one I am really crushing on. Partly because of the fabrics, but mostly because I can’t wait to share with you next month.
I have the top pieced and have started the quilting. I’m using Glide thread for the first time too – it’s a project of firsts! I wanted something that would work with the shimmer in the fabrics. The sheen of this thread is gorgeous.

Glide Thread – Cool Grey
Before I started quilting I tried several different combinations of this thread and bobbin thread. I tried Omni, Bottom Line, and So Fine 50 in the bobbin. In the end, I went with Glide in the bobbin and on top. It’s been the magic combination. I haven’t had any tension issues or threads breaking, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that everything continues to work this well!
Here’s a shot of some ofΒ the quilting on top. It’s a lot of marking and ruler work, but I like how it’s looking so far.
And here’s a shot of the back. You can almost feel the frostiness, right?
I’m looking forward to finishing this one and sharing it with you!
Now, on to this week’s linky party! Last week, there were several link-ups featuring free motion quilting so that’s what I want to highlight for you.
First, did you all see Tish’s amazing whole cloth quilt! That girl has some mad skills and I loved her finish.

Then there was Jayne’s Skinny Mini quilt. All those sweet flying geese and quilting made for some wonderful texture.

Finally, Janice of Color, Creating, & Quilting has been practicing her free motion quilting skills. These loopy flowers look great!

Now it’s your turn to share your crush for this week. I know you have been working on fun projects – show them off! You can link up any blog post, Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

I love the fabrics, the shimmery sheen is beautiful, I can’t wait for the reveal!
I’m following Quilting Jetgirl, so that is how I got here! Love your material pick! I actually have some of that!
I also saw these fabrics and liked them a lot. They had a yellow that I was considering doing #LookingGlass #MeadowMistDesigns. However, I decided it would not work with the batiks I was using. Rock on though, as they are a great line of fabrics!!!
Hi, I’m a new visitor, and I do love your frosty fabrics, and look forward to seeing the finished quilt! Mind you, I didn’t need to hear about your glorious weather! π We’ve just had a weekend of torrential rain… could you send some sun over to the UK please?!
I was so excited when a friend of mine told me one of my posts had been featured on your blog! Thank you! Made my day!
That shimmery fabric you’re using is amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing the finish!
Love seeing Tish’s quilt there; truly stunning beauty of a quilt! As are those MM fabrics!! Saw the back on Instagram so it’s great to see the colours of the fabrics on the top!
Awww, thank you, Beth for sharing my whole cloth this week π And I LOVE that Fairy Frost fabric! Now to see the front of that quilt because I’m really loving the back π
Your quilting is so precise – Just beautiful Beth. Looking forward to seeing more of this project.
I really love your fabric pull (which probably surprises absolutely no one, LOL) and I look forward to your reveal in July! π
I am crushing on the start of the new quilt bloggers blog hop this week, I hope that is OK to link up!
Fairy Frost fabrics are pretty! I wish I could FMQ like you. Need to practice more π

OOOOOO……frosty! Very refreshing. I echo other commentators-it has been hot and humid here-unusually so for June. Hot unbearable summer?
I love those fabrics – I don’t like super hot – so I’ll come visit your frostie’s when I just cant stand it anymore – ha ha!! Can’t wait to see you project!
Beautiful quilting and thank you so very much for hostessing the linky party!
Yes that thread and color is perfect for your project! I use the cool grey glide on pure white fabric(tone on tone white too) and it is just right!
hotter than usual here too – this week near 100 for early June just not right!
The Fairy Frost fabrics are lovely, especially in that array of colors. Glide thread is new to me–I will look it up. Thanks for hosting the link up each week!
I’m not a great machine quilter like you are, I need to stick to straight line things. The local fabric store, which is just 3 miles from my house, carries the Glide thread and that is what I used on all the quilts I have quilted. I had started a quilt using regular aurifil thread but it was just too blah. I got the Glide and it was amazing how that shiny thread just brightened the quilt top! I’m glad to know I’m using the same thread the professionals use. Blessings, Gretchen
Thanks for the links to those beautiful pieces of free motion quilting.
Love the shimmer in those Fairy Frost fabrics. Looking forward to your July reveal.
