So, things have been wild around here and there’s been miniscule progress made in the sewing room. However, tiny bits of progress is still forward movement and no one can be upset about that!
I finished one of my deadline projects, and you’ll get to see the full quilt on Thursday. Until then I can share the binding – it’s so cool! You might have seen this pic on my Instagram feed but if you missed it here it is:
I love that striped print! Stay tuned for more details later in the week.
I am also in the middle of writing a new pattern, and have been making test blocks. These blocks include flying geese which is a bit unusual for me. I’m not the best at making flying geese – they always look so wonky to me and I have to do a bunch of trimming to get them sized right. So what do I do? Design a quilt that uses lots of them! Guess I’ll get better at making them by the time this pattern is finished. 🙂
Do you find flying geese difficult to make?
I’m using the ‘four at a time’ method, along with the Wing Clipper ruler by Studio 180 Designs. I’m generally not a specialty ruler kind of girl but using the wing clipper, along with very careful stitching, allowed me to achieve perfectly sized FG units. I’m finding that I’m not as bothered about making flying geese as I used to be!
This week I’ll be traveling to Lancaster, PA to attend the AQS show with my sister and a couple of our girlfriends. I’m excited to go, but snow is in the forecast so I’m a little nervous about it. We may be stranded at Sis’s house – but I guess we’ll just have a few sew days if that happens. No matter what, we will have fun!
I hope you have a great week and get to work on your projects. I’ll be taking some things along with me to work on, and I’m crushing big on the quilt show and sewing time with Wissa. What is your crush for this weeks Main Crush Monday? You can link up any blog post, Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

I love that binding Beth. Does anybody not struggle with flying geese. I’m getting better at them but they are never perfect.
Yes that binding stripe is wonderful. I love the Studio 180 rulers. I have a lot of them. The only thing I like better, especially for flying geese and triangles, is my Accucut Go. Downside to that is having to buy all the dies. Sigh.
I struggle with flying geese, too, and have made a few designs to push me out of my comfort zone and use the. I look forward to Thursday and seeing how your new design shapes up, and I hope the new quilt bloggers hop is off to a smooth start!
That binding is great! And yay you – another pattern!
I never had instant success with flying geese until I started using the Fons and Porter flying geese ruler. No trimming necessary now. Looking forward to seeing the quilt with that adorable binding!
I finally tried the no waste flying geese method and it works pretty well for me. Otherwise, I like to use the bloc loc rulers to square up my wonky geese. Can’t wait to see what you are cooking up!
That binding turned out beautifully! I’ve learned to be really careful with my seam allowances when making flying geese. They turn out better than they used to, but they still aren’t one of my favorite blocks to make.
I use the four at a time method most of the time, unless I only need one or two. Pattern writing and test blocking making I’m in the middle of that right now.
I can’t wait to see your quilt, I can guess what it’s for but I’m looking forward to seeing how it will look! And yes, I find FGs difficult to make, they always come out a bit undersized for me. I have a wing clipper too but I haven’t quite figured out what size to cut them so that they can be oversized for the wing clipper to do its job …
