Happy New Year! I have to say I’m ready to move on from 2017 and look forward to a new year. A lot has happened, both good and not so good. I want to say a huge Thank You for reading this blog, for commenting, and following along on my quilting journey. I appreciate you SO much! I wish for you a serene year filled with joy and happiness.
It’s been quiet here on the blog the past few weeks, as I took an unplanned break from pretty much all social media. First, I had that last customer quilt to get finished before Christmas. I’m happy to say I finished it with 6 days to spare! The client loved it, and I received a big hug, which is the best compliment. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture of the finished quilt. I delivered it the day after it was finished and I forgot to take pictures.
Then, while cleaning around the house I tripped over my feet and the sweeper and fell in my hallway. It was one of those ‘oh crap, this is happening’ moments that happened in slow motion but I couldn’t stop it. I landed on my bum knee and my right hand. Thankfully nothing was broken, but my hand was sprained and rug-burned so typing was a chore. I decided to give in and rest and enjoy the holiday.
All is better now, and I treated myself to a selfish sewing day on Saturday. I was able to put together the top below. I’m calling it the Bird Quilt. 🙂
It felt so good to sew something that wasn’t on a deadline or for a customer. Although technically, I guess I could say this is a customer quilt. My best friend saw the panel and pattern and wanted the quilt. She doesn’t sew, so she bought all the fabric and I’m putting it together for her. I’m enjoying working on it. All that’s left to do is add the borders — three of them — and then quilt it up.
Selfish sewing is my crush for this first week of 2018. I hope to get to do a lot more of it this year.
In other news, I’m excited to announce that I will again be co-hosting the New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop this spring, along with these amazing bloggers:
Eligible participants are quilt bloggers who have been blogging less than 3 years. Registration will open on February 1, and the co-hosts will be sharing more information in the next few weeks.
I hope you’ll consider joining in the fun!
Now it’s time for you to share what you are working on. What has you excited to be in your sewing space this week? You can share any blog post, Instagram or Flickr pic – here’s how:

Glad you were okay – and could recover. I think next time you could ask the universe to just give you a sticky note that you needed a break ( ha ha) hope the New Year has started out well for yoU!
That is a great bird quilt. I like the secondary block in it, too. Your accident was one way to have a quieter, less stressed holiday!
Glad that you are doing better now, Beth. The birds make a gentle soothing quilt. Wishing you joy and success in the new year.
Hi Beth … glad to hear you’re recovering from your fall. It’s never pleasant when stuff like that happens!
As for the New Blogger’s Blog Hop – I’m hoping to join again. I learned so much and met a lot of bloggers.
Your “bird” quilt is very nice! It’s giving me ideas … Ideas that I don’t need because I’m not going to start anything new until I get my UFOs done (ha ha) … but I can dream about ideas and birds – right? 🙂
Ouch! I’m so sorry you took a tumble, Beth 🙁 I hate that slow motion feeling of doom, when you know something is going to hurt!
On the plus side, your Bird Quilt is lovely! I do love a good bird fabric, and I can see why your friend fell for that piece. The three HSTs in each corner look like little trios of flying birds! I’m looking forward to seeing the borders on this one. Happy New Year!
Love this quilt for your friend. I did the 2017NQBloggers and thoroughly enjoyed it. I may want to sign up again, depending on commitments. It was really fun and I know the co-hosts will do a smashing job!
Hiya Beth!!! I’m so sorry to hear about your fall, and glad you are doing better. I have a question please. I started my blog several years ago, but haven’t been active with it for the past 2 years. I’m reinventing it and getting back into blogging more seriously this year. Would I be eligible for the New Quilt Blogger’s blog hop??? I understand if the answer is no, but I’d really like to do this. Thanks so much for your time. Blessed be, hugs!!!
Oh the fruits of your “selfish sewing day”. Good for you! I am sorry you fell.
Hi Beth,
I am so glad your fall wasn’t more serious! Maybe it was a sign to just chill a bit and enjoy the time with your family and friends. How nice of you to sew that quilt top for your friend! Of course you couldn’t really say no, could you?!! I know I wouldn’t be able to. I am SO THRILLED to see the info about the New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop. I hope to sign up and participate. I started my blog in late February of 2017 and missed the deadline for last year. Thank you so much for the info – I’ll keep watching for more to come. Happy New Year to you and your family! ~smile~ Roseanne
I am sorry to hear about your fall but am glad you did not get too hurt. I am excited for the next New Bloggers Hop!
Those “oh crap” moments are so scary. Glad it wasn’t any worse. Your selfish sewing project is fun. Hope you can get in some more me time sewing this new year.
Why is it when we have ‘one of those falls’ we always land on our bad knee?! I hope you get back to normal quickly! Congrats on taking the lead with the New Bloggers Hop…It was one of the best things I did a couple years ago. So much great info and you learn a lot! Happy New Year to you and your family!
I had hoped yout blog silence was more holiday related, but I am glad you are recovered! Yay for selfish sewing – your friend is going to love her quilt. I am very much looking forward to the new bloggers blog hop, you can count me in. Happy New Year!
I am so glad you didn’t get hurt more from the fall; those moments can be so scary. I am so excited that the New Quilt Bloggers blog hop is getting such a great infusion of new energy. Thank you so much for carrying it forward; I know it is in great hands and I am so looking forward to meeting the bloggers in the hop!
