When Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs put out the call for pattern testers for her newest patterns I was happy to volunteer. (I might have jumped up and down yelling Me, Me, Let Me!) I really enjoy Cheryl’s patterns; they are well written, easy to follow, and her most recent patterns Grand Scrappy Tiles and Sea Star are no exception.
This week I’m working on Sea Star, which is a combination of a plus block and star pattern. I went outside my comfort zone and pulled fabrics from my stash to use. I usually use bundles that someone else has pulled together, so this was good practice for me.Β The pattern is fat quarter friendly and I have a lot of fat quarters! I ended up with several prints that were orange and yellow so that’s what I decided to use.
I’m really pleased with the way the top looks. It is bright and happy and makes me feel good just looking at it. I think that makes a successful quilt, right? The blocks finish at 15″ so the top goes together quickly. I only needed nine blocks for the baby quilt I’m making.
I found the cutest 30’s print for the back. Just look at these puppies and kiddos!
Hopefully I’ll be able to get this quilted this week and have it finished before the weekend. Wish me luck!

Beautifully done! That backing is perfect to go with such a fun and sunny front.
Looks great!
You chose fabrics beautiful for this quilt! It is just glowing, and those big blocks are really fun!
Cheryl’s patterns are beautiful and you did a great job with it. It’s such a bright and cheery quilt π

Nice, summery quilt Beth. You did a great job with your fabric pull. Can’t wait to see how you quilt it.
I love those yellows and oranges in the Sea Star. I was thinking of that palette for the Sea Star as well. I guess I’ll go with something else, for varieties sake. Yours looks great.
I love that Sea Star pattern and your fabric choices! π
Beth – I lve what you’ve done here. The bright yellow and orange fabrics looks so summery together. Well done.
The top is super cheerful and fun, and I think the backing fabric is so sweet. Good luck finishing it up! π
Beautiful! I really like the colors you used and the backing fabric is so cute!
