Last week was our youngest son’s birthday, so hubby and I took a two hour road trip to spend the day with Anthony. It was an absolutely beautiful day, very sunny and warm. It was the prettiest day we are suppose to have all week.
After lunch at the Green Turtle (yum!), we paid a visit to the Forks of Cheat winery. If you are ever in Morgantown, WV it is a nice place to spend some time. We brought home a few bottles of wine and gifted Anthony a bottle of rum, so everyone was happy. Mike sampled the Blackberry wine, which the clerk said was like “cobbler in a cup.” I love that description! Since he loves blackberry cobbler, we just had to bring home a bottle. 🙂
We also took time to stop in the Country Roads Quilt Shop. The store is brightly lit and full of tons of fabric, both traditional and modern and I enjoy stopping in when visiting Anth. It is always so exciting for me to see in person all the fabrics I drool over online. I also surprise myself by liking prints in person that sometimes don’t appeal to me online. I wish I had taken pictures of the shop. I just get so caught up in chatting with the owner (such a lovely lady) and I always forget.
The shop is housed in the old Seneca Glass Company building. The architecture is amazing, with much of the original building still intact. It was built in 1896, and was converted to the Seneca Center sometime after 1985. You can read more about this interesting building and its history by following this link.
I showed great restraint and only brought home two fat quarters of Mochi Dot Linen. I think these will make a great zipper pouch or wallet. I knew as soon as I picked them up I knew that they would be mine – I love the feel of them. I’ve never worked with linen before. Is there anything special I should be aware of?
For the past several months I have been so good about not purchasing fabric for myself. Mostly because I’ve been very busy sewing for other people, but also because I feel the need to use what I already have. But lately, whew! I have ordered fabric from Craftsy, Pink Castle, picked up several yards from the LQS, and am currently seriously trying to resist the urge to hit the buy button on my Intrepid Thread shopping cart. Hopefully I can get a grip on this madness soon! Is anyone else having this problem?
If you are in the middle of your own shopping madness or need a last minute gift for the crafty people in your life, all Craftsy classes are up to 50% off through Saturday.
Today I’m linking up with Lorna at Let’s Bee Social. Check out all the other quilty goodness shared over there!
Sounds like a great birthday celebration. I’ve been on a fabric diet all year. You have to ruthlessly delete all those quilt shop emails or the temptation will get you. I’m finding that fabric diets are as hard as calorie diets. Good luck with your fabric diet attempt.
Wine and polka dots. Yes, please 🙂
Thanks for the post. I’m about an hour from Morgantown. My brother used to live there. So if I get the chance, I will have to go to this shop. Plus, I am trying to resist the urge to buy online. I have enough fabric already that my drawers are stuffed full! Yikes!
Happy belated birthday to your son! How awesome that you got to visit with him on his special day. I LOVE that quilt shop! It is one of my favorites. I get to visit it often because my hubby loves the running store in the bottom of the Senica Center. If you are ever in the area let me know 🙂 Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
